The Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) is a strategic advisory committee working on behalf of the funding bodies for FE & HE in the UK. The JISC has funded a number of initiatives promoting the introduction of Managed Learning Environments (MLEs) into FE and HE across the UK.
The NIIMLE is a three-year JISC funded project that started in June 2002. It aims to explore the issues related to developing learning environments to support the seamless movement of the learner between and across FE & HE institutions. The consortium driving the project consists of three of Northern Ireland’s sixteen further education colleges and its two campus-based universities, namely:
In late 2003 the project extended invitations to the remaining FE colleges and without exception all thirteen signed up. The NIIMLE therefore represents a significant collaboration between the entire further education and campus-based higher education sectors in Northern Ireland.
